๐ 10 African women pioneering Mobile Money and fintech
Tomorrow, 8 March, is International Women's Day. I believe in a world where women play an important role, and I want to use this LinkedIn post to honour African women whom I see as pioneers in Mobile Money and fintech in Africa and beyond.
Fintech and Mobile Money have transformed our lives in Africa. Behind this digital evolution are exceptional women who innovate, build and shape financial inclusion. Here are ten figures making history.
1. Juliana Rotich
Co-founder of Ushahidi and a leading figure in Kenyan technology. She contributed to Kenya's digital ecosystem, home of the famous M-Pesa service.
2. Elizabeth Rossiello
Founder of AZA Finance, formerly BitPesa, facilitating cross-border payments and international transfers to Africa.
3. Odunayo Eweniyi
Co-founder of PiggyVest, one of Nigeria's most popular fintechs for digital savings and financial management.
4. Rebecca Enonchong
Founder of AppsTech and a strong champion of African technology. She actively supports fintech startups and digital innovation.
5. Tara Fela-Durotoye
A Nigerian entrepreneur who has contributed to digital-payment adoption in commerce and women's entrepreneurship.
6. Juliet Anammah
Former chair of Jumia Nigeria and a Flutterwave board member.
7. Temie Giwa-Tubosun
Founder of LifeBank, using digital payments and technology to improve African health systems.
8. Angela Kyerematen-Jimoh
Former IBM Africa executive and now a partner at Flutterwave, supporting payment-infrastructure expansion.
9. Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, alongside several women leaders in his ecosystem
Co-founder of Flutterwave and Andela, organisations where women executives have helped expand digital payments in Africa.
10. Mary Ellen Iskenderian
President of Women's World Banking, promoting women's financial inclusion through digital services and Mobile Money.
I could not name everyone, but this post says thank you for being here and for your work towards financial inclusion in Africa. Thanks also to you, more than 600 million Africans now use Mobile Money.
